Here's the Scoop:
Minnesota is one of a few states that is offering some amazing incentives for solar.
How It Works:
Minnesota is the rare state that offers solar system owners the opportunity to earn cash for the power they generate. This is called the Adjustable Block Program.
Adjustable Block (AB) Program
The (Illinois AB Program) is an incentive program that encourages new solar installs in Minnesota through the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). This allows solar owners to sell back power from their solar systems to Minnesota utilities. Cha-ching!
Why is Minnesota Doing This?
Minnesota is unique as it requires 25% of its electricity to come from renewable energy sources. That means you can sell your power to help utilities reach their goals. The Adjustable Block Program is not open-ended, meaning the earlier you apply, the more cash you’ll earn back when you go solar.
And Don't Forget the Federal Tax Credit
In addition to net metering and SRECs, solar system owners are also eligible for the federal solar tax credit.
The federal solar tax credit gives you a dollar-for-dollar reduction against your federal income tax. The value of the tax credit is 26%, but reduces down to 22% in 2021.
After 2021, the tax credit for residential solar ends.
